Paisley + Chris
Blue skies and sunshine for one lucky St Ives wedding photographer!
An outside ceremony and a trip to the beach; sounds risky for a UK wedding but Chris and Paisley’s day was perfect and full of individual touches.
Chris and Paisley kindly choose me to capture their wedding on 30th August 2014; they were married in the pavilion at Tregenna Castle followed by a reception at the St Ives Harbour Hotel. My day began at the St Ives Harbour Hotel, where Paisley was getting ready with her bridesmaids. There was a buzz in the air; the sun was shining, the champagne was flowing and the girls were full of anticipation for the day ahead. Chris and Paisley had chosen an awesome colour theme – black and white contrasted with hot summer colours. The bridesmaids were decked out in pink, purple, orange and yellow with sunglasses to match – very cool! When the girls were nearly done I walked the short distance to Tregenna Castle, where Chris was waiting and wedding guests were beginning to arrive. With Godrevy Lighthouse in the background and great views across St Ives Bay, the setting couldn’t have been more perfect. As the guests started to take their places outside the pavilion I took the opportunity to get lots of informal shots – capturing the excitement that was building ahead of the arrival of the bridal party! And what an entrance they made. A string quartet played away as the bridesmaids arrived. Their colourful dresses would have brightened up any day, but against a clear blue sky they were stunning. The girls were followed by Paisley flanked by her dad and son Lucas and I managed to get some shots of them making their way through Tregenna’s beautiful gardens.
Once the ceremony was over I grabbed the chance to get some creative shots of the wedding party in the gardens overlooking the bay. The picture of the bridesmaids throwing their colourful bouquets into the air is one of my favourites! After this the couple departed – to a chorus of cheers and energetic confetti-throwing – in their wedding car (a classic Rolls Royce) to meet us back at The St Ives Harbour Hotel. The details at the venue were really individual. They played on the theme of black and white and silhouettes throughout, using this in the wedding decorations and stationary on the tables. Each table had a different gift, from personalised chocolate bars to scented candles, seaside-themed decorations to homemade marmalade. I always try to capture as much of this detail in my wedding photographs as possible, as I know how much effort goes into it! At the hotel drinks and canapés flowed, as guests continued to enjoy one of the best views in Cornwall from the terraces overlooking St Ives Bay. Chris and Paisley had also hired a really cool stencil artist, who created small portraits of each of the guests – a really clever and unique wedding idea which I have never seen before.
After the wedding breakfast and speeches, the bridal party were keen to get down on to Porthminster for some beach wedding photos. This was another highlight for me as we just had fun running and jumping about. We found some brightly painted beach hut doors and used the sunglasses, hats and bouquets as props! Paisley and Chris also had a few quiet moments too, and enjoyed a stroll along the waterline together. Then it was back up to the hotel for the first dance, party and live music – a lively end to a brilliant St Ives wedding day!
