The Ceremony
One of the things I love best about doing Cornwall wedding photography is working with awesome couples like Amy and Charlie and getting to be a Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer. Amy and Charlie chose the perfect venue for their Spring wedding. I first met Amy when she was a bridesmaid at a previous wedding I shot (Andrew and Becky’s wedding). I get a lot of my bookings in this way which is so nice as it feels like meeting up again with old friends again.
On the day itself, I arrived early and caught up with Amy who was getting ready at her family home in Mawnan Smith near Falmouth. Amy was in good spirits and safe hands with her parents and bridal party along with the awesome Holly from Holly Luisa hairdressing (who did Amy’s hair and all 6 bridesmaids’ hair as well!) and the super lovely make-up artist Tamsyn Siddiqui. I then quickly shot over to The Greenbank Hotel to catch up with Charlie and his grooms party and got a few images of them all dressed and ready to go. One of the many reasons why I always love returning to be a Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer is that it has amazing views of Falmouth and Penryn Harbour.
Amy looked amazing in a lace detail dress with a sheer and floaty skirt and a full-length veil that gave her a really soft and romantic look and I loved her personalised white biker jacket! There was a really lovely ‘father seeing the bride’ moment before Amy headed downstairs to greet her mum and the bridesmaids. Everybody then headed to St Mawnan’s church for the ceremony. St Mawnan’s is a pretty and historically rich church that has spectacular views of farmland and coastal paths. Amy and her dad travelled there in style in a lovely 1930’s Beauford car.
The ceremony was warm and personal with some beautiful singing from the amazing Nancy May that absolutely blew the guests away. Afterwards Amy and Charlie were treated to a confetti moment that I know was one of their favourite moments of the day.
Here are a few of my favourite images!

The Reception
After the wedding service at Mawnan Smith, everybody then headed to The Greenbank Hotel for the reception. Amy and Charlie in that gorgeous 1930’s Beauford car and the guests travelling in a fantastic vintage bus!
Now I get to talk more about why I always love returning to be a Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer. Dating back to 1640 The Greenbank Hotel is a characterful and elegant wedding venue. It’s panoramic views of clear waters and sun-drenched shores flood it with natural light (us Cornwall wedding photographers are total geeks when it comes to talking about light!) It’s interiors are tasteful and stylish so even when the weather is poor there are still plenty of beautiful backgrounds when photographing my brides and grooms.
On arrival at The Greenbank Hotel Amy, Charlie and their guests all enjoyed a drinks reception and were treated to those incredible views of Falmouth and Penryn Harbour. The wedding reception was held in The Riverbank Suite, a bright room with full length windows and a balcony overlooking the water. Its tasteful décor was the perfect blank canvas for Amy and Charlie to add their personalities.
After the speeches and a yummy wedding breakfast, I took the chance to get some a few portrait shots of Amy and Charlie on the balcony. The weather had turned against us in the afternoon but this didn’t stop these guys getting out for a few awesome portraits overlooking the sea!
Evening celebrations started with a romantic first dance. Though Amy and Charlie weren’t on the dance floor alone for long. This lot were really up for a party and it wasn’t long before some serious shapes were being cut by guests young and not so young! 🙂
A gorgeous fun, stylish, family friendly wedding full of love and laughter. Congratulations to Amy and Charlie for getting married and creating a fantastic wedding day for yourselves, your family and your friends to remember. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting Greenbank hotel wedding photography.

Amy & Charlie's story....
Can you tell me about the proposal?
Charlie proposed on the Southbank in London whilst Amy was hunting for churros at the Christmas market! It was perfect and afterwards we went to celebrate with massive burgers and beers!

Can you tell me about your venues and why you chose them?
We knew that we wanted to get married in St Mawnan Church, as Amy grew up in Mawnan Smith and her parents got married in St Mawnan Church. We decided to look at reception venues in Falmouth and we chose the Greenbank Hotel for a number of reasons. My sister had been a guest at a wedding there and said it was fantastic! Most of our friends and family don’t live in Cornwall so we wanted a venue which would provide an option for everyone to stay the night if they wanted to. The Greenbank has a number of different options of great bedrooms, including the honeymoon suite which was beautiful! We loved the views from the hotel, the bar and Riverbank Suite were wonderfully light and spacious and and we felt immediately in safe hands with Jane the wedding manager!
–
Were you going for a certain style or theme for your wedding?
We didn’t really have a theme for the wedding however we knew we wanted a relaxed feel and we choose the colour scheme of sage green, pink and gold.
–
What is the most memorable moment from the day?
Walking out of the church in the sunshine, seeing all our friends and family’s happy faces whilst they covered us in confetti! We were so grateful that everyone made the effort to be there!
–
Why did you choose Stewart Girvan Photography?
Our decision to have Stewart as our wedding photographer was one of our easiest decisions! Stewart was the photographer at our friends Becky & Andrew’s wedding. Not only were their photos absolutely stunning, but Stewart is such a lovely guy and was a pleasure to have around for the day!
–
How did you feel about having your photos taken and were pleased with your final images?
As neither of us particularly like having our photo taken we love Stewart’s natural reportage style and he made us feel completely at ease! We absolutely love are photos and are so grateful to Stewart for really capturing our day perfectly!

Can you tell me about any other suppliers that contributed and played an important part to your wedding? For example, florist, makeup artist, transport, entertainment
All our suppliers were fantastic, if we went back in time and did it all again I would choose exactly the same suppliers!
- Holly Luisa Hairdressing – Holly was an absolute delight to have around on the morning of the wedding. She is lovely and amazing at what she does, she gave Amy and all 6 bridesmaids styles that were suited to each individuals’ taste but still in keeping to a soft, romantic style. We would highly recommend Holly!
- Tamsyn Siddiqui make-up artist – Tamsyn did the make-up for Amy and her mum on the morning of the wedding. Tamsyn is great, professional and she understood exactly what we wanted. Our make up was better than we could have ever imagined!
- Treverbyn Cars – Karen from Treverbyn Cars was wonderful and the 1930’s Beauford that we had was beautiful!
- Nancy May – Nancy sang for us at the church, she is so incredibly talented and blew the congregation away with her beautiful voice.
- Bakes by Charlotte – Charlotte made our incredible wedding cake! It was victoria sponge, coffee sponge and lemon sponge with buttercream icing. It looked and tasted absolutely amazing! It was exactly what we wanted and we will definitely be asking Charlotte to bake us cakes again in the future!

Do you have any advice for future couples planning their wedding?
Be organised and don’t leave too much till the last minute. Delegate, have a few people you trust to help you out with the logistics and be points of contact on the wedding day morning! Take a moment for just the two of you, we were given that tip before our big day and we are really glad we did it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through Amy & Charlies wedding. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did being their Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer!
