This was the first time being the wedding photographer at Chypraze Wedding Barn in West Cornwall for me and what an epic wedding day it was! Anna & Ian are just the loveliest people you will ever meet, all the smiles, super friendly and just so much fun to be around. They choose a classic autumnal wedding day in Cornwall to get married. The weather pretty much threw everything at us, heavy rain showers, bright sun and strong winds! This didn’t however not effect the mood or celebration of their day, in fact it just added to it and made it way more special and unique to them!

Anna spent the morning getting ready a few miles down the coast at the amazing cottage at Pendeen Lighthouse, what a place to start of your wedding day! Whilst Anna and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the Pendeen, Ian took his close family and friends down to Portheras Cove, the beach below Chypraze wedding barn for some frizbee and beach games. The wedding ceremony, BBQ reception and Ceilidh all took place back at the Chypraze wedding barn. We managed to get back down to Portheras for a few snaps of Anna & Ian and their bridal party. For the window of time we spent on the beach, the light was just magical! I often find weddings in Autumn and Winter can throw up some beautiful light and this was Cornwall at it’s best!

Here is their story...

Can you tell me a little bit about yourselves, for example, where did you meet?

A mutual friend set us up a few years ago and we hit it off straight away!

Can you tell me about the proposal?

We were in a beautiful hotel in New Zealand, after having completed the Tongariro Crossing that day, which is an amazing seven and half hour walk over volcanoes. Ian proposed after a lovely dinner in the hotel and it was very emotional.

Can you tell me about your venues and why you chose them?

We wanted somewhere relaxed and informal where we could have a barn dance, eat amazing food and somewhere where our guests could enjoy themselves in beautiful surroundings. Anna is from Cornwall so we knew the wedding had to be in the county. Chypraze Farm was perfect. The sea views are stunning and Fiona and Ian were incredible hosts; accommodating, well-organised, flexible and relaxed.

What is the most memorable moment from the day?

For Anna: saying the wedding vows in the barn in front of everyone. For Ian: taking on a bull on the way to the beach for the photos

Why did you choose Stewart Girvan Photography?

Because we already knew Stewart and that he’s so much fun to have at weddings! His photos are amazing and really capture the spirit of the day, as well as moments that might go unnoticed otherwise. From our first meeting with Stewart he seemed as excited about the day as we were and it was great to have him for every moment.

How did you feel about having your photos taken and were pleased with your final images?

We were delighted with the images. Stewart is very easy going and unobtrusive when taking pictures and the results are great. He joined Ian for the beach sports in the morning and then joined Anna and the bridesmaids for the getting ready part, before documenting the ceremony perfectly and taking some amazing shots on the beach. Stewart is easy going and fun to have around and doesn’t make you feel awkward, a lot of the time you don’t even notice he is there!

Can you tell me about any other suppliers that contributed and played an important part to your wedding? For example, florist, makeup artist, transport, entertainment

Where to start? We were so lucky that everyone who was a part of the day was great. The beautiful flowers were by Brenda at the Cornish Bunch in Penzance. I can’t recommend Brenda highly enough, the flowers were stunning and she was flexible with last minute requests. Shelley and Fern from Shelley’s Hair and Beauty in St Just were really great companions for getting ready with and did an amazing job of the hair and make up. Our brilliant Barn Dance was organised by caller Chris Humphreys and The Band Formally Known as The Falmouth Session, who were amazing! The fabulous pasties in the evening were from Philps of Hayle and St Just Cars provided the transport. We stayed overnight at Pendeen Lighthouse which was really special. The dress was from Pirouette in Exeter and the cake was made by a friend of Ian’s mum. Oh and another shout out to Fiona and Ian at Chypraze who were brill!

Do you have any advice for future couples planning their wedding?

Enjoy every minute of planning your wedding, the time will fly by! My only practical tip is to make a lot of lists (a spreadsheet if that’s your thing) and stay organised. But try not to get stressed about the day, remember that you’re planning the best party you’ll ever go to, everyone wants you to have a good time, everyone will have a good time as long as you do. It WILL be the best party of your life, I promise!
