One thing that I love about weddings is the big gathering of family and friends. I am from a large family myself (one of five) and although we don’t all live locally anymore, we do try to get together to celebrate Christmas and birthdays throughout the year. Weddings are very much the same and remind me of these great times – family and friends of all generations, in one place for a day to celebrate with their loved ones. It really is a special thing that I am lucky enough to part of almost every weekend.
Here is their story……
Holly and Ashley’s wedding took place on a sunny summer’s day at the St Ives Harbour Hotel. From the first meeting that I had with them, I knew this wedding was going to be a big family affair with lots of fun, banter and emotion.
My day started off an hour or so before the ceremony. Holly had asked if I could capture the moment of her dad seeing her in her dress for the first time. I’m so glad she did as this was a really lovely moment. Holly and all her bridesmaids gathered in the room and as soon as Holly’s Dad walked in, there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen! (me included!)
I absolutely love capturing moments like this, nothing posed, just letting moments unfold naturally.
The ceremony was packed full of close friends and family and you could genuinely feel the love in the room for the bride and groom. Straight after, the party began. Music playing, drinks flowing and lots of fun and laughter was had. My brief for the day was to capture people and moments as they happened which is exactly how I like to work and with Holly and Ashley’s wedding party this made my job very easy! A truly lovely wedding to be a part of. Holly and Ash, I wish you all the best for your future together and thank you for entrusting me with your wedding photographs.
Wedding ceremony and reception venue – St Ives Harbour Hotel
This is a venue I know well and one that I always look forward to working at. Firstly, the view from this hotel is amazing, I don’t think there is a better one in Cornwall. To the left you have a fantastic view of St Ives Harbour, below is the beautiful Porthminster Beach and straight out ahead is miles of sea and coastline with Godrevy Lighthouse in perfect sight.
The hotel really lends itself to weddings, with two very large function rooms and a great decked area outside overlooking the sea. It’s only a short walk down to Porthminster beach which can be perfect for a few portraits. With Holly and Ash, we popped down after their wedding breakfast to get a few shots in the lovely evening light. No matter what the weather the colour of the sea here is always incredible and the view provides an epic backdrop to any wedding photo.
