Okay, I admit it, weddings are always an emotional occasion for me. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear or two from behind the camera from time to time. Even when editing a wedding you can’t help but smile, laugh and cry (good tears!) while going through all the shots and reliving the whole day on screen. I’m always saying, and it’s definitely true, that being a wedding photographer is a real privilege for me, and in fact I think it’s one of the best jobs in the world. In most cases you get an ‘access-all-areas’ pass for the entire day. That means I get to be close to the action, seeing, hearing, feeling – and documenting, of course – every single moment of the day.
What makes a wedding even more special for me to be part of, is when it’s one of your buddies who’s getting married, and you’re not only hired as the photographer, but you’re also watching the events unfold as a friend. But before I get any more emotional and make myself sound like a complete softy, let me cut to the chase and tell you about the wedding of my very good friends, Chaz and Cat.
Here is their story……
I was so chuffed when Chaz and Cat asked me to photograph their wedding at the beautiful Nancarrow Farm. I wanted it to be perfect, and I can get a little obsessed with the weather, so I was checking the forecast prior to the day as I tend to do. I noticed it wasn’t looking good. However, when the day actually came, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It was a beautifully still, sunny, spring day. Unbelievably good for wedding photography. Goes to show, you can’t always trust the forecasts.
My day started by hanging out with Cat as she got ready at her parents’ house in Cubert, before heading over to Nancarrow. The whole morning was super chilled. In fact, I spent half the time helping Cat’s Dad, Nige, put the ribbon on his car. (I know, I know… I have many talents!) While I was there, I managed to get some really nice shots of the girls getting ready. Cat was so relaxed and just took it all in her stride.
I know for a fact that Chaz, Cat and their friends and family all worked tirelessly ahead of the big day to decorate and prepare the barn at Nancarrow. They did such a good job that when the guests arrived, everyone just settled in.
As I’ve mentioned, weddings are always emotional for me, but this was an emotional wedding all round. I could certainly see and feel Chaz’s nerves as Cat made her entrance. He only just managed to hold his tears in. (Fair play though, Cat did look amazing!)
The day went without a hitch and the sun shone down on the proceedings all day long. It was a real privilege to be part of this wedding as a photographer, but also as a guest. Later on in the evening we all enjoyed ourselves with lots of fun, many drinks. Quite a bit of dancing was had! Good times.
Here are a few highlights from the day.

The Wedding & Reception Venue – Nancarrow Farm
Without a doubt, Nancarrow Farm is one of my all-time favourite wedding venues in Cornwall. Set in an idyllic valley on a working organic farm near Truro, Nancarrow has only been operating as a wedding venue for a few years, but it’s safe to say they’ve absolutely nailed it!
I love working here as a wedding photographer. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside and farmland, the light is lovely (pretty much regardless of the weather) and there is so much authentic charm and character to the place. There are plenty of little nooks and crannies to shoot in, and the Mewton family who own and run this venue are the nicest, most down to earth people you could hope to meet.
I can’t believe I haven’t even mentioned the food in Chaz and Cat’s write-up yet, because it’s a really big deal at Nancarrow. We’re talking food that’s straight from the farm and cooked outside on the fire. As I was a guest at Chaz and Cat’s as well the photographer, I got to sample everything and so I feel pretty confident in saying that Nancarrow has literally the best wedding food ever! I look forward to working there again later this year.
