Wow! Where do I start with this one? Tom and Chi’s wedding at St Mawes Castle was simply brilliant. To be honest, behind the camera I had a big smile on my face all day long. These guys kicked ass with their great sense of humour and personality.

Here is their story……

Tom got ready at the Idle Rocks Hotel, while Chi and her stunning bridesmaids got ready at a rented holiday cottage in St Mawes. Chi’s family is from Hong Kong. Both sides of the family were so much fun to photograph, but I particularly loved Chi’s imaginative arrival with her bridesmaids at St Mawes Castle. They were all sporting brightly coloured heart shaped sunglasses! Ha! I don’t think the onlookers outside the castle gate were expecting to see that! Legendary.

The ceremony was set in the castle, and it was a truly beautiful occasion. Chi looked amazing and Tom was incredibly smart in his Naval uniform. During the ceremony, it was dark outside, but that just added to the ambiance. There we were in the castle, with the whole room lit by candlelight. That really added to the romance of it all.

After the ceremony, a traditional confetti-showered sword arch followed, with classic photos in front of the castle and overlooking Falmouth Bay. As if on cue, the light began to creep through the clouds at just the right moment, and I was able to make the most of it to capture some epic portraits of Tom and Chi. You just can’t beat the natural light in Cornwall for wedding photography.

The late afternoon really brightened up, when the clouds opened out into a truly spectacular sunset just as the evening celebrations got underway. There were some hilarious ‘dance offs’ between the bridal party and all the Navy boys, but I think everyone would agree, it was Chi and her father who dominated the dance floor.

Such a cool wedding to be part of. Big thanks to Tom and Chi for booking me. I wish you all the best for a long and happy future together.

The Wedding & Reception Venue – St Mawes Castle

If you’re looking for an iconic reception venue, St Mawes Castle will not disappoint. It sticks out into the sea on the end of the Roseland Peninsula, from which it overlooks Falmouth Bay in one direction and St Mawes in the other. It really lends itself as a wedding venue, and provides endlessly creative possibilities a wedding photographer. Depending on the time of year, and if the conditions are right, you should be able to count on some really nice afternoon and evening light at the Castle. On Tom and Chi’s day this was definitely the case. A pretty awesome sunset!
