It was so cool to be the wedding photographer for Kate and Ryan’s festival-themed wedding, which began with a memorable ceremony at the Alverton Hotel in Truro.

I’ve known Ryan for years, right back from my days at Truro College when I was trying to make it in the music industry as a drummer in a rock band. Long story, but basically… it didn’t work out. (Lol) Ryan, however is an extremely talented musician and plays in several bands. So when he asked me to shoot his wedding, I was excited. One thing I knew was that the music lineup was bound to be pretty epic!

Here is their story……

On the day itself, Kate, her two beautiful children and her bridesmaids, got ready in the impressive Bridal Suite at the hotel. Meanwhile, Ryan was rehearsing a cool cover version of the Guns and Roses classic, Sweet Child of Mine, for Kate’s entrance, together with a selection of very talented musician friends who were attending the wedding. (If ONLY they’d needed a drummer..!)

As the bridal party assembled and made their entrance, amazing music continued to fill the hall. It continued throughout the ceremony, as many of the wedding guests were from various local bands and had brought their guitars along. As predicted, the musical element of this wedding was so good. But meanwhile, back at the photography…

It was a seasonally colourful autumnal day, which made for some really nice shots in the grounds of the hotel. We also took some photos in the back of the camper van the couple had rented for their wedding days. The kids just loved being being such a major part of the day, so I made sure I captured some natural shots of them having fun.

Next stop was the marquee, where a rustic, festival-style celebration was set up and awaiting the happy couple. The wedding guests were seated on straw bales as they feasted on paella and pulled pork (thanks to some delicious catering by Nomad Events) and in that relaxed setting the wedding speeches got underway. Later on, there was a full lineup of awesome Cornish bands who provided a fantastic evening of entertainment.

Basically, this day had all the right ingredients. It was about friends, food, beer, love and rock’n’roll. Ryan and Kate, your wedding was epic! I loved every minute of it.

The Wedding Venue – The Alverton Hotel

The Alverton Hotel is a stunning venue in the middle of Truro. It’s one of those deceptive places where, once inside, you just wouldn’t know you’re right in the middle of Truro. It has really big grounds, and the building and Great Hall are particularly impressive. To be honest, The Alverton Hotel has definitely got to be one of my favourite wedding venues in Cornwall.

The Wedding Reception Venue – Private Marquee Wedding

Kate and Ryan held their reception on their own private land, in a marquee hired from the very awesome Nomad Events. They really made it their own and it looked amazing.
