Katie & Phil's Wedding Day
Oh, Katie and Phil! Where do I start! I was over the moon to be booked for this lovely pairs Trevenna Barns Wedding photography, especially after finding out they are photographers themselves! It’s always an honour to photograph anyones wedding but I am super touched when I find the people that I am photographing, are photographers aswell, I take great compliment from that, so thank you for trusting in me guys!
Katie and Phil’s wedding day took place at Trevenna Barns near St Neot in Cornwall. The day was super relaxed and alot of fun. Highlights for me included:
The music: I know I can’t really show this in the stills but Katie and Phil created an awesome themed playlist of film music from their fav films, some of which was by one of my fav composers Hans Zimmer. If I have this correctly, Katie walked up the aisle to music from the end of the film ‘Cool Runnings’ where the Jamaican’s carry the bobsled over the line! What a legendary piece of music and very unique for them! I loved this!
The confetti: This one, a little easier to show in the stills, just scroll down and you’ll see, it was epic, there was lots of it and it created an awesome moment after the ceremony! So much fun!
Golitha Falls: I have never been to Golitha Falls before and this was special place for Katie and Phil so between the ceremony and reception we snuck of for half an hour to take a few portraits in this beautiful place. The light was amazing and so were Katie and Phil! 🙂
Ceilidh Dance: Who doesn’t like a ceilidh dance? This always brings all the guests from any generation to the dance floor to have fun and it certainly worked for these guys! Pure joy and fun again at their evening reception at Trevenna Barns.
There are many more moments from the day to share but here are some highlights from Katie and Phil’s Trevenna Barns Wedding Photography.

Here is Katie & Phil's story....
Tell me a little bit about yourselves, for example, where did you meet?
We are both passionate about wildlife and wildlife photography and met at University down in Falmouth where we became good friends often out and about in the countryside with a camera in tow!
Can you tell me about the proposal?
Phil: It was a disaster! I wanted to propose back down in Cornwall (as we had moved to Somerset by then), but our car broke down on the way down and we had to be toed the rest of the way. I kept trying to set up romantic situations but she kept shooting them down! Finally we found a moment alone on the beach, and it was perfect. Afterwards we sat and watch the firework over Pendennis castle (for which I still claim credit!)
Can you tell me about your venues and why you chose them?
We chose Trevenna Barns as our venue as we wanted a location that was ‘all in one’ and with a relaxed rustic atmosphere and feel. We wanted our friends and family to relax and enjoy their whole time away and Trevenna offered just that. The staff were amazing and really friendly and made the planning really easy and they were the only venue we looked at that asked us our story and then see how they could bring their venue to meet our dreams for the day. And the result was better than we could have imagined.
Were you going for a certain style or theme for your wedding?
The two words we were aiming for on the day were ‘rustic’ and ‘relaxed’. We also wanted it to be outdoors if the British weather would let us – and luckily for us it was.
What is the most memorable moment from the day?
Phil: I think standing at the end of the isle with my back to everyone else, waiting. An the minister asking if I was going to take a peak, and deciding there and then that I wasn’t going to play it cool and casual, I just wanted to she Katie walking towards me.
Katie: For me it was when the vw campervan rounded the corner down to the parking space and I got my first glimpse of all my friends and family looking at me and smiling and waving. Then once I was out of the van turning and seeing Phil, and from then I don’t remember much until we were stood together.
Why did you choose Stewart Girvan for your Trevenna Barns Wedding Photography?
Hahahaha – because he was a Nikon photographer!!! We also love the relaxed style of photography as we really wanted to capture everyones true feelings on the day. And Stewart got them spot on. Also when we went off for our photos together just after we were married his knowledge and skills as a landscape photographer made them look (as many people have commented) as if we had just walked out of a fairy tail!
How did you feel about having your photos taken and were pleased with your final images?
Neither of us are used to being in front of the camera, we are much happier hidden on the other side of the lens, so being the main focus was very nerve-racking. But with Stewarts style it meant we could just enjoy the time together and forget there was a camera nearby. As a result the photos really show ‘us’ as a couple, nothing staged or forced, just us happily enjoying our day.
Can you tell me about any other suppliers that contributed and played an important part to your wedding? For example, florist, makeup artist, transport, entertainment
Venue was Trevenna Barns, The flowers were supplied by Anna’s Flower Barn, Hair and Make-up were done by the Pop-up Salon, Transport was supplied by Strawberry Leisure and the ceilidh provided by The Shipsters.
Do you have any advice for future couples planning their wedding?
Our advise would be to sort out the venue as that will give you the date and dictate everything else. We had a rule for the guest lists if one of us had not met the person in question by the date of the wedding they were not invited, so helped keep our guest list down. And most importantly, don’t try and make everything 100% perfect something will always happen, so as long as you make it so you can relax and be happy on the day it will become 100% perfect, without you even realising.
I absolutely loved being the wedding photographer for Katie and Phil’s wedding at Trevanna Barns! Thank you so much guys, it was a pleasure to meet you and all of your lovely family!
