Well this was a first for me.

Truro Cathedral is one of the most iconic buildings in Cornwall and to have your wedding there, you need to have a good connection with it and luckily enough for these guys, both of Lizzy’s parents work there! Needless to say weddings at Truro Cathedral are pretty rare so when Lizzy & Seb booked me to photograph their wedding, I was super excited!

Like many weddings in Cornwall, there are often two venues or two parts, one for the ceremony and one for the reception. The contrast of Lizzy and Seb’s two venues was very cool. Firstly, their ceremony took place in the grand stature of Truro’s famous three Spires, the impressive (and very long) isle and beautiful architecture of Truro Cathedral. One of my fav pics from the wedding ceremony was taken from the back of the Cathedral as Lizzie made her entrance (check it out below). As the venue was so large I had some extra help from an awesome wedding photographer friend of mind, Mr Dan Ward who kindly second shot for me during the ceremony. This helped me cover all the angles of the Cathedral and I’m not going to take credit for the entrance shot, that was all his work! Thanks Dan!

The second part of the wedding took place on the Roseland. After the ceremony, all the guests headed to a super relaxed, super fun, tipi wedding reception in a field over looking the sea and the iconic Nare Head on Cornwalls South Cost. What an amazing and unique choice of wedding venues!

Lizzy and Seb are just a joy to be around, their energy and positivity is infectious and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these guys and their family and friends. Lizzy is from Cornwall and Seb is from Slovenia so there was a mx of traditions throughout the day and I particularly loved the Slovenian wedding games at the reception!

Although Truro Cathedral may come across as a formal venue, the wedding party of Lizzy and Seb just made it all so relaxed and so much fun, They chose of of the most beautiful days to get married too!

With the amazing mix of locations and lovely people, this would be the dream wedding booking for any wedding photographer in Cornwall and I am so grateful I was chosen to be part of it. Thanks guys.

As always I will let the photos tell the story but also check out Lizzy & Seb’s wedding story direct a little further down the page.

Enjoy x

Here is their awesome story...

Tell me a little bit about yourselves, for example, where did you meet?

Seb and I met at University, our friends Ali and Ryan tried to set us up in the first year and they thought we were meant to be. It wasn’t until the second year of uni that we thought we should give it ago and clearly it was the right idea 🙂

Can you tell me about the proposal?

Seb took me on a surprise holiday to Athens (I’ve always dreamed of going to Greece). He only told me where we were going once we got to the air port. He had a whole itinerary printed out! it was our 8 year anniversary when we were there, but I didn’t believe he would ask me to marry him. We went for a ridiculous walk up a crazy hill/mountain with great views but dodgy paths… we had a little argument about where we were trying to get to and then once we’d calmed down we sat on a rock to watch the sun set and then Seb got down on one Knee and popped the question… my answer was a very happy and tearful YES, followed by a “why did you wait until I was being such an idiot!” (I may have said a different word… haha).

Can you tell me about your venues and why you chose them?

We chose Cornwall because its where I grew up and where we intend to move once we are settled into married life. We were lucky enough to be able to chose Truro cathedral as our venue because my parents both work there, it was a dream come true for both of us, and Seb’s family were so impressed with the cathedral when they travelled over from Slovenia. We chose the tipi’s and the beautiful location because we wanted a mix of traditional and modern, we love going to festivals (my hen do was themed GlastonBRAY) so we thought the tipi’s would be perfect and the field would show off how beautiful Cornwall is to our friends.

Were you going for a certain style or theme for your wedding?

A mix of traditional and festival themed. We wanted to bring the outside in so used greenery and flowers inside the tipis. We also wanted to bring some of the Slovene traditions to the wedding, such as the arch way and games before we went to the tipi.

What is the most memorable moment from the day?

Seb saying DOG instead of GOD (we now have a puppy names George Oliver Dean Burley… AKA GOD in memory). After that it would have to be walking out the church with all our friends watching’s and seeing so many smiling faces. My face hurt the next day because I just couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. For Seb I think it was when he was lifted up by the boys on the dance floor- he was blowing kisses, shaking hands, I think he felt on top of the world!

Why did you choose Stewart Girvan Photography?

Stewart did my sister in laws wedding and we absolutely loved how natural the photos were, Becki told us how relaxed Stewart was on the day and that you barely noticed photos being taken.

How did you feel about having your photos taken and were pleased with your final images?

The final images were incredible- we are both blown away and everyone we have shown has said the same. There are so many precious moments captured, and so many that we hadn’t seen. We would recommend you to any who wants their day captured just the way it happened! There were some posed photos, as requested, but the best are the ones we didn’t know you took. You captured every laugh, cry, hug and happy moment.

THANK YOU

Can you tell me about any other suppliers that contributed and played an important part to your wedding? For example, florist, makeup artist, transport, entertainment

We did the flowers ourselves, our friends and mothers baked the cakes, Cornish tent company did the amazing tipis. Buen Apetito did all the food. The farm is privately owned and not used for wedding commercially (such a shame as its incredible). The Bar was self stocked too, all guests brought a bottle of spirits and we supplied mixers, wine and beer. (Seb brewed 6 different beers himself)

Do you have any advice for future couples planning their wedding?

Don’t sweat the small stuff, nail down your venue and your save the dates and then go with the flow and don’t over think. Don’t panic when things go wrong (and they will), you honestly will not notice or care once the day gets going. Take a step back and take in what’s happening. Definitely get photos done of just the two of you somewhere away from others and don’t forget to have FUN! It is the best day of your life.
