Words from Matthew Dale – Owner of Restronguet Barton

Why do you think people should choose Restronguet Barton as their wedding venue?

We offer a truly Cornish venue in that we combine beautiful countryside with fantastic sea views; soft sea views from a sheltered location.  The views are unique to the venue, they can be seen from nowhere else, and the views on either site are not at all apparent until you round the final bend.

The venue is a blank canvas to do with as you wish; from when the marquee is erected on a Thursday until it is taken down on the Monday. We have had wedding receptions that cover the full range; from beer and pasties for 40 people to a sit-down seven course meal for 250!

We enjoy sharing our location with newly married couples, not least because some of the inherent excitement rubs off on us too.

What tips would you give to potential couples looking to book a wedding venue in Cornwall?

Always have an open mind and look at as many venues of different types as possible.

Don’t always rely on the web too, get out and look at them in person.

If you are doing your own thing – marquee for example – don’t try to do too much, or ask family members to do too much, pay for professional help.  I know that the money tree soon gets bare but you really want to enjoy the day with your close family and friends.  Too much stress pre-wedding is not helpful.

Don’t get too hung up on perfection, or a perception of perfection.  A good venue, good booze, good vibe and a sense of fun are worth far more than the precise shade of white for the place settings.

Make sure exactly what the venue offers or doesn’t offer: power, water, parking etc.

If you are thinking of a marquee then be prepared for bad weather, and don’t fret if it’s not perfect.  It is a tent in a field and that brings with it the chance of wet grass and even mud if it pours.  That said, Even some of the wettest weddings have been amazing occasions.

Finally, remember that it is your big day, do what suits you and have fun!

Restronguet Barton – Marquee wedding reception venue with a view!

Wedding venues come in all shapes and sizes, but if you and your partner are fans of the Cornish outdoors, then how about the idea of a marquee wedding? A marquee for your ceremony or reception is certainly something to think about if you want flexibility and access to the countryside. I’ve had privilege of being hired as wedding photographer for a few marquee weddings in recent years, and if you’re wondering about recommended options in Cornwall, I’d suggest Restronguet Barton as a dream marquee wedding venue.

Breath-taking vista makes Restronguet Barton a stunning Wedding venue!

For a memorable Cornish outdoor venue with a unique view, then Restronguet Barton fits the bill, and then some! A choice of two sites are available, and your final decision will depend on whether you prefer to overlook the incredible Fal Estuary, or the open countryside of the picturesque drowned river valley of Carrick Roads and beyond. What a choice! You’ll have to visit the site or see the photos to really take in the full appeal of this place, but those already familiar with the location will tell you just how breath-taking this scenery is. What’s more, it’s one of the best things about Restronguet Barton, that the views available to wedding guests are inaccessible to the public from any other place. The areas used by wedding parties are in a very sheltered location, with hedges and mature oak trees to guard against the wind. Whichever of the two field locations you choose, both are more than big enough for largest marquee can be set up, still leaving you with plenty of parking space for your guests. Usually guests hire their marquees for this wedding venue through the awesome Absolute Canvas Marquees who are in my opinion the best wedding marquee company in Cornwall. Trust me, you are in safe hands with these guys.

Weddings at Restronguet Barton are sheltered, secluded, and with spectacular vistas

When you book Restronguet Barton for your wedding, you really can make the day your own. Each of the two sites is at the top of a field, and couples simply hire their own marquee for the occasion to create your personalised wedding venue. No worries about setting up in a rush, as the site is made available for the wedding coordinators and their helpers at least 4 days before the event (often more, by arrangement), as well as a day or two after. This means you can set up and clear away without the big rush, which is perfect if you’re getting creative with your decor. Depending on the site you choose, electricity is available either as part of the tariff through the mains sockets, or by using a hired generator that you’re welcome to bring and set up. Both sites have mains water. Oh, and to keep the neighbour’s friendly, the owners request that any wedding fireworks are finished by 10.30pm. Quite reasonable. And what an epic way to end your day!

I’d love to do your Restronguet Barton Wedding Photography!

If you’re wondering whether the views at Restronguet Barton are photogenic enough, let me tell you, they are incredible. Local wedding photographers will tell you this place is perfect for wedding photoshoots. You only need to check out my blog for examples of weddings I’ve attended as a wedding photographer. It’s such a fabulous place to visit that I’m always happy when couples who book me as photographer tell me that’s where they’ve chosen to host their wedding day. Here are just a couple of examples from my clients.

Andrew and Becky were so keen to overlook the water from their wedding reception that Restronguet Barton was the perfect place to set up their marquee. Wellies and surfboards were the order of the day, and that was just the decor! It’s such a beautiful location, and I could mingle with the crowds for a lot of the time, finding stunning action shots that were really natural, and worked well with the more formal ones. It really is an outstanding location for wedding photography.

And then there was Heather and Steve’s wedding. Coming from Cornwall, Heather knew she wanted to get married here with a sea view. And even though the proceedings started with a bit of a shower of rain, by the end of the day, we had the gorgeous sunset, followed by the full moon rising, which was a pretty perfect ending to such a special day.
